Professional CCTV and Data Cabling for Cardiff Homes and Businesses

Modern security and connectivity require more than off-the-shelf solutions. Professional CCTV installation ensures optimal camera placement, reliable power supply, weatherproof mounting, and a recording system that actually captures usable footage when you need it. Structured data cabling provides hardwired network connections that outperform Wi-Fi in speed, reliability, and security.

We design and install complete CCTV systems for residential and small commercial properties across Cardiff. This includes IP and analogue HD cameras, network video recorders (NVRs), Power over Ethernet (PoE) infrastructure, and remote viewing configuration. Every system is tailored to the specific layout and security requirements of your property.

Our data cabling services cover Cat6 and Cat6a structured cabling for home offices, multi-room networking, and small business premises. We run cables through walls and ceilings — not clipped to skirting boards — and terminate at flush-mounted faceplates for a clean, professional finish. Every cable run is tested and certified to TIA/EIA standards.

As qualified electricians, we handle all aspects of the installation including dedicated circuit provision, consumer unit connections, and integration with existing electrical systems. This is a significant advantage over general CCTV installers who may not be qualified to carry out the electrical work required for a safe, compliant installation.

    • IP and analogue HD/4K CCTV camera systems
    • Network Video Recorder (NVR) with remote viewing
    • Power over Ethernet (PoE) for clean, single-cable installation
    • Cat6 and Cat6a structured data cabling
    • Concealed cable runs with flush-mounted faceplates
    • Full testing and certification of all installations

The Risks of DIY or Poor-Quality CCTV and Cabling

Many homeowners invest in security cameras or networking equipment only to find that the installation is inadequate when it matters most. Poor positioning, unreliable power, and substandard cabling create systems that fail precisely when they are needed.

    Poor Camera Placement

DIY installations frequently position cameras with blind spots, backlighting issues, or at heights that produce unusable facial identification footage. Professional site surveys eliminate these problems.

    Unreliable Power

Cameras powered by inadequate adapters or daisy-chained extensions fail during power fluctuations. Professional installations use dedicated circuits or PoE with UPS backup for continuous operation.

    Exposed Cable Runs

Surface-mounted cables are vulnerable to damage, tampering, and weather exposure. They also detract from your property's appearance. Concealed runs protect cables and maintain aesthetics.

    Wi-Fi Reliance

Wi-Fi-dependent cameras and networks suffer from interference, range limitations, and bandwidth competition. Hardwired connections via Cat6 cabling provide consistent, high-speed performance without these vulnerabilities.

    Non-Compliant Electrical Work

CCTV and data installations often require new circuits, outdoor cable routes, and connections to the consumer unit. Unqualified installers carrying out this work create electrical safety risks and compliance issues.

    Inadequate Recording

Systems without sufficient storage, incorrect recording settings, or unreliable NVR hardware miss critical footage. We specify and configure recording systems to capture and retain footage effectively.

    How It Works

Our CCTV & Data Cabling Process

    01

    Site Survey

We visit your property, assess security requirements and network needs, identify optimal camera positions and cable routes, and document the proposed system design.

    02

    System Design

We specify cameras, NVR, cabling, and any electrical work required — providing a detailed quote with equipment specifications and a layout diagram.

    03

    Cable Installation

All cables are run through walls, ceilings, and lofts using concealed routes. External cables are protected in UV-resistant conduit. Every run is labelled and documented.

    04

    Equipment Mounting

Cameras, NVR, switches, and faceplates are installed and connected. We configure recording settings, remote access, and notification alerts.

    05

    Testing & Handover

Every camera and cable run is tested. We demonstrate the system, configure your mobile access, and provide operating instructions and documentation.

    Why Choose Us

    Benefits of Professional Installation

    Optimal Coverage

Professional site surveys ensure cameras cover entry points, driveways, and vulnerable areas with the correct lens angle and resolution for identifiable footage.

    Reliable 24/7 Operation

Dedicated circuits, PoE power, and weatherproof installation ensure your system operates continuously without interruption.

    Concealed Cabling

All cables run through walls, ceilings, and conduit — no exposed runs, no surface-mounted trunking, no visible wiring.

    Hardwired Speed

Cat6 cabling provides up to 10Gbps connectivity — significantly faster and more reliable than any Wi-Fi solution for cameras and home networking.

    Remote Access

View live and recorded footage from anywhere using your smartphone. We configure secure remote access and push notification alerts during installation.

    Electrically Compliant

All electrical work is carried out by NICEIC Approved electricians, ensuring your installation meets BS 7671 and Part P requirements.

CCTV & Data Cabling: Technical Details

    CCTV Camera Types and Selection

We install both IP (Internet Protocol) and analogue HD cameras depending on the application. IP cameras offer higher resolution (up to 4K), remote management, and analytics capabilities. They connect via Cat6 cable using Power over Ethernet, eliminating the need for separate power cables. Analogue HD cameras (TVI/CVI) are cost-effective for simpler installations and connect via coaxial cable to DVR recorders. For most residential installations, we recommend 4MP or 5MP IP cameras with PoE — providing excellent image quality with the simplest and most reliable cabling infrastructure.

    Network Video Recorder (NVR) Specifications

The NVR is the recording and management hub of an IP CCTV system. We specify NVRs with appropriate channel counts (4, 8, or 16 channels for most residential installations), sufficient hard drive storage (typically 2–4TB providing 14–30 days of continuous recording), and H.265+ compression for efficient storage utilisation. All NVRs we install support remote viewing via manufacturer mobile apps and web browsers, with DDNS or P2P connectivity for reliable external access.

    Cat6 vs Cat6a Data Cabling

Cat6 cable supports speeds of up to 1Gbps at 100 metres and 10Gbps at distances up to 55 metres. Cat6a supports 10Gbps at the full 100-metre distance and provides superior shielding against electromagnetic interference. For most residential installations, Cat6 is more than adequate and more cost-effective. We recommend Cat6a for properties where cable runs exceed 55 metres, where runs pass near significant sources of interference, or where maximum future-proofing is a priority. Both types are terminated at flush-mounted RJ45 faceplates and tested to TIA/EIA channel specifications.

    Power over Ethernet (PoE)

PoE technology delivers both data and power over a single Cat6 cable, eliminating the need for separate power supplies at each camera location. This simplifies installation, improves reliability, and allows cameras to be powered from a central PoE switch or NVR with optional UPS backup. We use IEEE 802.3af/at compliant PoE switches that provide up to 30W per port — sufficient for all standard IP cameras including models with integrated IR illumination and pan-tilt-zoom capabilities.

    External Installation and Weatherproofing

External CCTV cameras and cable routes require specific protection against weather, UV exposure, and physical damage. We use IP67-rated cameras designed for permanent outdoor installation, UV-resistant conduit for all external cable runs, weatherproof junction boxes at transition points between internal and external cabling, and appropriate cable glands and seals at all entry points to the building. External installations are also protected by dedicated circuits with appropriate overcurrent and RCD protection.

    Integration with Home Networks

Modern CCTV and data cabling installations integrate with your home network to provide centralised management, remote access, and smart home compatibility. We configure VLAN separation where appropriate to isolate CCTV traffic from general network traffic, improving both security and performance. For properties with multiple access points, we can install structured cabling to support mesh Wi-Fi systems, providing consistent wireless coverage throughout the property backed by reliable hardwired infrastructure.
